THE HUMANREJECTIONMANIFESTO

HUMAN REJECTION

Every day, millions of people apply for jobs, share their experience, invest their time, and place a part of their hopes in a professional opportunity. Behind every résumé, there is a story. Behind every application, a person. And behind every job search, the desire to build a future, develop a talent, and find a place where they can make a difference. Yet more and more people are facing recruitment processes in which they don't know who is evaluating their application, how decisions are made, or why they never hear back.

We are more than a résumé. More than keywords, algorithms, automated filters, and scores. We are people. Not files to be discarded. We believe in more human hiring. We are not against technology. We believe in its power to improve processes, expand opportunities, and help organizations find the right talent. But efficiency cannot justify indifference. Automation must not become an excuse to abandon responsibility. And no algorithm should ever make us forget that hiring decisions affect real lives. Technology should serve people, not the other way around. That is why we stand for a hiring process in which innovation goes hand in hand with empathy, efficiency with accountability, and data with human judgment.

We stand for respect, transparency, and dignity. We believe everyone deserves a recruitment process that respects their time, their effort, and their worth. A process in which expectations are clear, communication is respectful, and important decisions are not hidden behind opaque systems.

We are not asking for every application to be accepted. We know that not everyone is the right fit for every role, and that rejecting an application is a legitimate part of hiring. What we question is not rejection. It is dehumanization. Rejecting someone for a position can be legitimate. Treating them as if they don't deserve a response, an appropriate explanation, or a fair assessment should never be the norm. We are not demanding a job. We are defending the right to be treated with respect while trying to get one.

Technology does not erase responsibility. Artificial intelligence and automated systems are already part of many recruitment processes. Their use creates opportunities, but it also raises fundamental questions. Who is accountable when an application is unfairly rejected? How can someone challenge a decision they don't understand? What happens when a system overlooks someone's talent, experience, or personal circumstances? We believe companies must remain accountable for their hiring decisions, even when they use technology to make them. We stand for processes that allow candidates to understand how their applications are assessed and, where appropriate, request a review of a decision by a qualified human professional. In some jurisdictions, laws already recognize rights relating to automated decision-making, human intervention, or the ability to challenge certain decisions. These rights vary depending on the country, the applicable legislation, and the circumstances of each recruitment process.

We want respect for people to be a standard that does not depend solely on where they live or which system a company uses. *Human oversight should not be a privilege. It should be an essential part of responsible hiring.

We are not just applicants. We are human. Human Rejection was born from a shared experience: the feeling of sending an application into a void, being reduced to a profile, or being excluded from a process without knowing whether anyone ever truly considered what we had to offer. But this movement was not created to fuel resentment. It was created to turn frustration into awareness, indifference into accountability, and silence into a conversation that needs to happen. We speak to job seekers, to those who have been rejected without a response, to those just starting their careers, and to those who, after years of experience, have felt that their professional journey cannot be captured by a score. We also invite companies, HR professionals, recruiters, and technology developers to become part of the solution.

Because more human hiring doesn't benefit only those looking for work. It also helps build more responsible organizations, stronger relationships of trust, and a workplace culture in which people matter. This movement belongs to you, too.

We don't want a world in which nobody is ever rejected. We want a world in which rejection does not mean invisibility, automation does not erase accountability, and no one has to wonder whether their application was assessed fairly. We want to open the debate, share experiences, promote better practices, and drive real change in the way organizations hire.

It doesn't matter whether you're looking for your first job, have been sending applications for months, work in Human Resources, or lead a company. If you believe technology should move forward without leaving our humanity behind, this movement belongs to you, too. Join Human Rejection. Share your experience. Demand better practices. Help us change the conversation. Because hiring is about much more than filling a vacancy. It's about recognizing talent, taking responsibility, and treating people like people. And that should never be forgotten.
